Credit-card companies' top 10 money-grabbers - Credit cards.
It may seem very difficult to get by without them in this day and age, but the fact of the matter is it's becoming more and more expensive to live with them. That's because credit card companies have managed to stack the deck in their favor, thanks to obliging lawmakers and regulators who have allowed them to gouge consumers for exorbitant fees and unconscionable interest rates.

Capital One sued over marketing practices
Capital One and its subsidiaries are using bait-and-switch sales tactics, according to Attorney General Mike Hatch. While the firm markets credit cards as having the nation's lowest "fixed rates," rates can and often do change, the lawsuit alleges. In fact, 40 percent of Minnesota residents who've signed up with a Capital One card thinking their rate is fixed have hit a "tripwire," causing an overnight rate hike, Hatch said.

Congress Passes Bankruptcy Reform Bill
Recently Congress passed the most sweeping bankruptcy reform legislation in more than 25 years, seriously reducing the ability of consumers to file for bankruptcy. Houston attorney Robert B. Hinsley says, "So what! While this bill makes it harder for consumers to file for bankruptcy, in the state of Texas most consumers benefit from bankruptcy only when they have more than several million dollars of debt. Bankruptcy will hurt more people than it helps. This bill slams the door to bankruptcy shut, but credit card consumers don't need it anyway."
